Open European Championships 2011

The IUTF Open European Championships were held recently in Cork and the Blackrock TaeKwon-Do club sent out their best fighters to show Europe what they could do, and out of 9 competitors took home 12 medals, including 4 gold! 

Blackrock wins Club Of The Year

At the recent Taekwon-Do Ireland Awards night, Blackrock was awarded Club Of the Year for the 2010/2011 season. Blackrock student Daniel O'Sullivan was also awarded Competitior of the Year in recognition of his many tournament wins this season.

Results from IUTF Cork Opens 2011

Mr Alan Walsh and Mr Darren Healy organised the recent IUTF Cork Open Championships which was held in Neptune Stadium. There was a great turnout at the competition from all over Ireland, with a large team from Argentina also taking part.  There was 4 weight divisions for Black Belts, two of which were dominated by Blackrock. Paul Manning and David O Mahony took 1st & 2nd in the Light Weight Division (-64kg). Then James Dwyer and Daniel O'Sullivan then went on to take 1st & 2nd in the Middle Weight Division (-76kg).  

2011 Taekwon-Do Ireland Blackbelt Grading

During May the club had 9 students testing for 1st Degree Black Belt in the annual Taekwon-Do Ireland Black Belt Grading. Everyone preformed well on the day and passed the tough examination. Congradulations to our new Black Belts, Lisa Dunne, Julie Buckley, Reka Markos, Courtney Casey, Lena McCarthy, Tony Casey, Daniel O'Sullivan, Donal O'Sullivan and Marty Haugh.  Club Instructor Paul Manning also graded on the day and achieved his 4th degree Black Belt.

Two Local awards for James Dwyer

Club Instructor James Dwyer received two local awards during the month of May in recognition of his World Championships win in Seoul Korea last year. He received a "Sports Personality of the Year" award from the Cork Indoor Sports Association, and a "Sportsman of the Year" award from the West Cork Opinion.   

Taekwon-do Ireland Black Belt Prelims

Congradulations to the the nine Blackrock students that sucessfully passed their Black Belt Prelim. Each student will now try to achieve their 1st Degree Black Belt at the full Grading on May 28th. 

PUMA Black Belt World Championships 2011

Congratulations to Paul Manning for winning 2 gold medals at the 1st Puma Black Belt World Championships held in Swindon on March 19th & 20th. He traveled over with our friends from the IUTF and placed first in Individual Sparring (-63kgs) and first in Team Sparring. Here is a video of his final against Adam Swain of PUMA UK.

Irish International Championships 2010

The Irish International Championships were held in Neptune Stadium, Cork, on the 14th & 15th of November. This is the main event on the Irish Calendar and is one of the biggest competitions to be held annually in Europe. This year competitors travelled from Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Results from Blackrock. Paul Manning, Black Belt Sparring Lightweight, Gold. James Dwyer, Black Belt Sparring Middleweight, Silver & Black Belt Patterns (non sine-wave), Bronze.
