ITF World Championships 2016, Brighton UK - A new world champion from Blackrock!

A great week at the ITF World Championships in Brighton. Over 1000 competitors, from 45 different countries. Daniel O Sullivan took a gold medal in the Senior Black Belt middle weight sparring division. He faced Argentina in the first round followed by Brazil in the second round. Despite badly injuring both his legs he managed to win the semi final against England with a fantastic knock out. This was followed by another tough match against Argentina in the final which he won to become World Champion. What a great achievement and a testament to hard work that he has put in. Daniel was one of the first students to join the club when we opened 9 years.
Rory McCarthy fought in the u16 welter weight division. After a very solid win against Canada in the first round he faced Argentina in the quarter final. The fight was very close with Argentina winning by a point. Argentina then went on to win out the division. This was Rory's first World Championships. He joined the club six years ago and is one of the most talented students that we have had the pleasure to work with. He has a very bright future ahead of him.We are very proud of both these guys.Big thanks to Redking Taekwon-Do and the rest of the ITF Eireann team.
